the_scapegoat: (OOC cherub)
As those who I play with the most already know. I am going on vacation tomorrow for a month to the old homeland. Although I have my laptop, I still probably won't get much chance to do much RP-wise until after I get back on August 8.

If there is anything that I should see/be aware of/needs my attention, please leave a comment here, so I don't miss anything.

On how I'll be roleplaying for at least the summer.

If you have any questions or comments, please comment on that post.

the_scapegoat: (cherubim strikeout)
This journal is now [ profile] 1st_of_the200. After much deliberation and considering everyone's thoughts and polls, I decided to go with [ profile] omgwtf_dfw's suggestion, but just adding the 'the' to make it sound that much more definite.

In the end, Azazeal insisted he keep the 1st. The name, as a whole, refers to his being the leader of the 200 angels who Fell with him (i.e. the Grigori).

Edit: Everything should have switched over, so his friend's list is the same and everything for 1st_nephilim should be redirected. :)
the_scapegoat: (OOC cherub)
After browsing a book at the library to dig up some research on Azazeal, I made some notes that I hope to eventually expand upon. This will be added to.

There are three main spellings for his name, Azazel, Azael, and Hazazel as well as many others variations. As is noted on his userpage, Azazeal is the spelling used by HEX, why I don't know, but it's claimed that it was a 'stylistic' decision by the producers (or maybe they just didn't do any research? No, that would never have happened!).

In Levititicus 16:8 on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) two goats would be chosen and one would be given to God and the other "marked for Azazel" and be cast out into the wilderness.

In The Zohar (Vayeze 153a) the rider on the serpent is named as "the evil Azazel."

Ireanaeus calls him "that fallen and yet mighty angel."

Apocalypse of Abraham calls him "lord of Hell, seducer of mankind."

His true demon form is apparently, 7 serpent heads, 14 faces, and 12 which Azazeal is just looking at me and snickering.

Milton's Paradise Lost I, 534 describes Azazel as "a cherub tall", fallen, and Satan's standard bearer.

Islamic writings, he is known as Iblis, meaning "despair" and refused to obey God and bow down to Adam.

(Davidson, Gustav. "Dictionary of Angels." Toronto: Collier MacMillan, 1967.Pages 63-64)

So, what does this mean for Azazeal?

For one thing, I shall keep to the HEX spelling to keep him separate from other uses in fandom of the demon, but he will answer to all, if need be. Even Iblis. :D Speaking of which, as I do write (very occasionally) [ profile] stitch_intime who is also Iblis I view them as one but also different aspects. [ profile] stitch_intime is more associated with Islamic writings and with the Djinn and Shaitan.

As well as Milton's description of being a cherub tall, I've come across other sources that point to him having been one of the Cherubim before his Fall. This puts him as being in the second highest rank in angelic hierarchy. Now, because the word 'cherub' has the connotation of cute winged babies, and Azazeal definitely isn't that, if I mention his former standing, I'll use (erroneously) 'cherubim' the plural...or 'kerub' (Hebrew) or 'karabu' (Assyrian/Babylonian).

Once he fell, it gets confusing as sometimes Azazeal is referred to as being Satan himself or Satan's standard bearer. Whatever his position is, he can be surmised that he is quite senior in Hell' hierarchy. HEX implies this too, when he tells a surprised Remiel that he has been recalled to Hell, and that even he has to answer to someone (Lucifer, I presume), and this is how I write him as pretty much only answering to Lucifer (when he feels like it). As for his true demonic form...I'm just going to stick with the one portrayed in HEX, much easier.

Okay, now I come to the sticking point of the Nephilim. This is what Azazeal and his brothers were called in HEX. Although, as I note on the userpage, this is wrong. The 200 that Fell after falling in love/being seduced were the Grigori (also called Watchers) and the Nephilim were the offspring of those unions. This mistake in canon has never sat well with me, despite the fact that I made it his journal name. And as I've written him more, it's sat even less well for the simple fact that it is wrong, and I can't see a logical reason why HEX made it this way. They did use the term Watchers, so why not Grigori? Anyway, I'm not going to go back and change every instance of "Nephilim" nor will I totally rule it out of usage in the future, although it will be more used in describing Azazeal, Remiel and others of the 200 in their demonic forms. Instead, I'll use Grigori more. Watchers will be used sparingly to save any confusion with Highlander or Buffy fandoms.

I know some of the things mentioned here are pretty basic, especially for anyone with Biblical or Rabbinic literature, but 1) I'm still researching this myself, and 2) what I do know I wanted to lay out simply so that those not so familiar can understand.

It's poll time! )
the_scapegoat: (Dark close up)

I just uploaded this one. Azazeal didn't have an OOC icon, and after discovering that he was a Cherubim before his fall that, face it, him as a cherubic child...can't get any more OOC.

the_scapegoat: (Remiel with Azazeal B&W)
For the next two weeks or so, I'm going to be very slow to practically non-existent in RP-land as I have family coming to visit from across the Pond, and will be busy spending time with them (as well as the fact that the computer is in the spare/guest bedroom *g*).

Apologies in advance to those I have threads with. Those I write most with know already, and I know which threads are a priority with them, and I'll get to them if I can. All others will probably be on hold, although I may get a chance for a bit of meta here and there.

Now back to cleaning house in prep. :(

Post over on my own journal here with info on what's going on in my life, on how I RP, and attempting to address several things that have been brought to my attention.

x-posted to my other pups' journals, so apologies if you see this several times.

I don't seem to be getting notifs (even though I have plenty in my inbox to keep me company *g*), but for recent stuff, I may not have got it. Let me know here if there's anything in the past day that needs my attention. Can't promise I'll get to it straight away, but at least I can track it.
the_scapegoat: (smile)
First the note. I'm the first to admit that I'm probably a little anal when it comes to locations, and the fact that Hex is set in England, in a beautiful stately home for the most part, even more so. I've been curious to find out where it was filmed, so I could have some idea of where in England Azazeal was (although as he can go pretty much anywhere, it really isn't that important to anyone other than my own self-satisfaction). Anyway Medenham Hall (the boarding school), I've discovered, is in fact Englefield House near Reading in Berkshire (just west of London), and the some of the external scenes in Season 2 were filmed in St. Albans in Hertfordshire (20-ish miles north of London). That fact alone gave me cause to squee as St. Albans is less than 15 miles from my hometown (and a gorgeous place steeped in history dating back to Roman times (Verulanium) with a beautiful Abbey).

So, as I do have some connection there, I've decided that the events in Hex (as far as my own writing is concerned) takes place in and around St. Albans with Medenham Hall situated just a few miles outside in Green Belt commuter country. Of course, Azazeal being who he is, is hardly limited to being stuck there and is likely to show up anywhere.

As for the surprised thanks. I wish to give my deepest gratitude for those who have nominated Azazeal for Outstanding Writing of a Male Deity over at [ profile] the_bigtammys. I was completely stunned at this, seeing as he is a brand new muse who has been around for less than two weeks! Thank you so much for not only noticing my fallen angel, but that he has clearly made an impact on someone, especially when he is in the company of some brilliantly written and well-established deities.

And yes, the Nephilim is impressed.

Edited for clarity.
the_scapegoat: (The nephilim is not impressed)
In this wonderful real life world we live in there are all kinds of nasty things associated with unprotected sex. Underage pregnancy and STD’s, both lethal and non-lethal, run rampant. Is this something that your muse has to deal with? Is unprotected sex as big an issue for them as it is for us?

Discuss the ramifications that unprotected sex does or doesn't have for your muse.

Basically there are no ramifications to unprotected sex for Azazeal. He's a fallen angel, so STDs are not a concern for him at all. He's not going to catch anything from a human, and he's not really going to spread anything either. The issue of pregnancy, is a whole other matter.

Azazeal has been trying to sire a male child for millennia in order to fulfill the prophecy. He hasn't been too successful at that as each time he finds a suitable witch, she has a tendency to be violently murdered before she can give birth. In the case of Cassie, she had been carrying a condom, and was certain that her 'boyfriend' Troy wore it when they had sex. Of course, as Azazeal was possessing Troy at the time, he would make certain of it so that the way would be clear for him. After that Cassie was possessed, and she was hardly in a state to think about such inconveniences as she was gagging for it, even though she really should have. By the time Azazeal completed his seduction, protection was the last thing on her mind, which is exactly the way he wanted it.

So, inevitably Cassie did pay the consequences by being very pregnant, very quickly. By the time she realized what was happening, she made arrangements at the local hospital for a late-stage termination -- she was some 20 weeks pregnant after just a few days. Azazeal appealed to the doctor's Christian nature, and he delivered a healthy baby dark Messiah.

There are other things, too, that have to be taken into account for a woman who falls into a sexual relationship with Azazeal, that really abstinence is probably the best protection, and that is insanity. Most, if not all, women slowly become insane. This happened with his past loves, present bedwarmers like Jo, it began to happen with Cassie as nightmares drove her to the brink, it also was the reason why her mother was in a mental hospital.

As far as sex is concerned, there are no ramifications for Azazeal per se, just for those he's with...and maybe all of mankind too.
the_scapegoat: (Fallen)
What is the worst thing that your muse has done for sex? If they haven’t done anything bad, what would they do for sex if put to the test?

Well, he's been around for a very long time, but his track record seems pretty consistent. The worst thing that is known that he's done, is to possess Cassie to get her to lower all her inhibitions so he can seduce her. He does this by first possessing the boy she fancies. Once they have sex, she becomes possessed as well, and quite the nympho (considering she was quite innocent beforehand). It doesn't take him long after that to have her gagging for it. And that's without mentioning ritually sacrificing her best friend. Of course, once he does have sex with a woman, they usually end up insane. So, he doesn't only fuck them, but fucks them up, as well.
the_scapegoat: (Roses)
My favourite exchange (so far) between Azazeal and Cassie. It just cracked me up, not just for what's said, but how they say it. Both of them so very dryly.

Cassie: What's it like being so wise?

Azazeal: Obviously it makes normal life difficult. Trouble is you see everything before every one else, and then you have to wait for them to catch up.

Cassie: That must be very frustrating.

Azazeal: You've no idea.
